One day he started texting me videos he had shot with a crash dummy doll he found in his basement. The entire family found it rather amusing so while my wife and I were visiting one summer, I suggested we make a short film together...and Little Daryl was born. Using the Barnett basement as a prop house, we began filming using anything we had available: a child's rocking chair, a stuffed raccoon, a mounted fish and a toy car. As the story began to emerge, it became clear this was about an independent minded character challenging the expectations and demands of his mechanized culture - which I found very appealing. It became a David and Goliath metaphor where the smaller, weaker character was fighting to secure his independence. It was clear that this story had a great deal of humor and a lot of heart.
